Sujet : Femme aussi brillante que machiavélique, la Marquise de Merteuil se complaît dans son monde d'intrigues et de manipulations. Liée avec le Vicomte de Valmont par un pacte "d'inviolable amitié", elle lui demande de séduire Cécile de Volanges, une jeune pucelle fraîchement sortie du couvent et amoureuse du Chevalier de Danceny. Espérant regagner les faveurs de la Marquise, Valmont s'exécute sans grande difficulté. Mais il se propose ensuite de séduire la très fidèle et très prude Madame de Tourvel...



Michelle et son rôle :
Stephen Frears remarqua Michelle dans Veuve mais pas trop... et fut immédiatement séduit. Il n'eut pas peur de confier un rôle classique à une vraie californienne mais au contraire il trouvait intéressant de faire jouer le rôle de Madame de Tourvel par un actrice purement hollywoodienne face à John Malkovich et Glenn Close dont la formation est plus classique. Pour lui, cela renforçait le contraste entre les deux mondes fréquentés par ses protagonistes : la pureté et la fidélité pour Mme de Tourvel et la débauche et la luxure pour Valmont et Merteuil.

Pour retrouver la popularité, ils décident d'engager une chanteuse. Ils choisissent Susie, une ancienne escort girl dont la stupéfiante beauté n'a d'égale que la qualité de sa voix. Véritable bête de scène à la fois sensuelle et désinvolte, Susie a sur le public un effet explosif. Cependant sa présence va rapidement éprouver l'entente entre les deux frères...



Michelle et son rôle :
Certainement un des plus beaux rôles de Michelle (le plus beau ?). En plus de ses talents d'actrices, elle révèle un véritable tempérament de chanteuse et interprète comme une grande toutes les chansons du film.
Michelle a obtenu pour ce film le Golden Globe de la meilleure actrice dramatique et a été nominée pour la première fois comme meilleure actrice aux Oscars (elle avait déjà été nominée pour Les liaisons dangereuses, mais en tant que second rôle).
Ah, la scène où Michelle chante sur le piano...un grand moment de cinéma ! La rumeur dit que Michelle aurait été tellement "hot" pendant le tournage de cette scène que le vernis du piano aurait craqué...

Sujet : Serveuse dans un snack-bar, Frankie a fait une croix sur ses rêves de prince charmant. Johnny sort de prison et est embauché comme cuisinier dans le même restaurant. Malgré un mariage décevant, lui croit encore au grand amour...


Michelle et son rôle :
Frankie & Johnny est l'adaptation d'une pièce de Terence McNally, Frankie et Johnny au clair de lune. Dans la pièce, le personnage de Frankie est une femme moche frisant la quarantaine. Aussi, quand le projet d'adaptation fut annoncé avec Michelle dans le rôle de Frankie, beaucoup s'étonnèrent de ce choix, beaucoup trop glamour pour un tel rôle. Kathy Bates, qui a créé le rôle sur scène, avoua qu'elle s'était étranglée de rire mais reconnut que Michelle était une "grande actrice".


Frankie & Johnny marque les retrouvailles de Michelle et Al Pacino après leur rencontre en 1983 sur le plateau de Scarface où ils s'étaient quasiment ignorés.
A la fin du tournage, Garry Marshall a offert à Michelle et à Al Pacino un tee-shirt sur lequel était inscrit : "J'ai survécu à la scène 105". En effet, cette scène (celle où Johnny demande à Frankie d'ouvrir sa robe de chambre pour admirer son corps) a nécessité trois jours de tournage pour que Michelle parvienne à lutter contre sa timidité et sa pudeur !
A noter au début du film la participation de Dedee Pfeiffer, petite soeur de Michelle, dans le rôle de la cousine de Frankie.

Also, when the draft amendment was announced with Michelle in the role of Frankie, much were astonished by this choice, too much glamour for such a role. Kathy Bates, which created the role on scene, acknowledged that it had been strangled of laughing but recognized that Michelle was a "large actress". Frankie & Johnny mark the meeting again of Michelle et al. Pacino after their meeting in 1983 on the plate of Scarface where they had almost been unaware of. With the end of turning, Garry Marshall offered to Michelle and Al Pacino a tee-shirt on which was registered: "I survived scene 105". Indeed, this scene (that where Johnny requires of Frankie to open its dressing gown to admire its body) required three days of turning so that Michelle manages to fight against its timidity and its decency! Surgis des entrailles de la cité, d'audacieux malfaiteurs, déguisés en clowns ou en acrobates et se réclamant d'un mystérieux "Pingouin", sèment la terreur dans les rues...


Michelle et son rôle :
Michelle rêvait d'incarner Catwoman qui était une des héroïnes de son enfance. Déjà à l'époque du premier Batman, elle avait fait savoir qu'elle accepterait gratuitement de faire une apparition en Catwoman dans le film.
Michelle s'est énormément investie dans le film : elle s'est initiée au kickboxing et a appris à manier le fouet. D'ailleurs, le plaisir qu'elle prend à interpréter Catwoman est évident à l'écran.
Très impressionné par la performance de son actrice, Tim Burton songea très sérieusement à réaliser un film sur le double personnage de Selina Kyle et Catwoman. Catwoman le film fut mis en chantier et Daniel Waters, le scénariste de Batman le défi, commença à écrire un scénario. Malheureusement le film n'a jamais vu le jour, au grand damn de Michelle...et au mien
