Sujet : Melanie est architecte, divorcée, méthodique et mère de Sammy. Jack est journaliste, divorcé, séducteur et père de Maggie. Bien que la nature ne les ait pas branchés sur la même longueur d'onde, le destin et quelques quiproquos vont se charger de les réunir...



Michelle et son rôle :
Michelle est productrice du film par l'intermédiaire de sa société Via Rosa Productions. C'est elle qui a choisi George Clooney, encore peu connu à l'époque, pour être son partenaire.
Un beau jour marque la rencontre de Catwoman et de Batman. Pendant le tournage, George Clooney se préparait en effet pour son futur rôle de chauve-souris.
Le principal conseil que Michelle lui donna était de bien penser à vider sa vessie avant d'enfiler son costume car une fois la combinaison enfilée, rien n'est prévu à cet effet...

cette inconnue est mal acceptée par David qui vit intensément avec le souvenir
de son épouse. Il la rencontre fréquemment et lui parle, le soir, sur la plage...



Michelle et son rôle :
Le rôle de Gillian est un rôle secondaire mais primordial dans Par amour pour Gillian. C'est la première fois que Michelle accepte un si petit rôle, en guest-star pour ainsi dire. Il faut dire que le scénario n'a pas été écrit par n'importe qui : l'auteur n'est autre que David E.Kelley, le cher mari de Michelle. Difficile de refuser dans ces conditions, d'autant plus que Michelle trouvait le rôle de Gillian passionnant...


Michelle et David E.Kelley s'étaient jurés de ne jamais mélanger vie conjugale et vie professionnelle. Puis Par amour pour Gillian se présenta...
Bien qu'adapté d'une pièce de théâtre, Par amour pour Gillian employa des moyens financiers et logistiques considérables afin que le tournage puisse se dérouler sur la petite île préservée de Nantucket. Pas moins de sept camions semi-remorques furent nécessaires pour transporter le matériel !

Un jour de fête dans le comté, le patriarche annonce à ses filles qu'il va partager le domaine en trois et se retirer de l'exploitation. En émettant des réserves, Caroline ne pouvait imaginer qu'elle déclencherait les foudres de son père. Un climat lourd, conflictuel, malsain s'installe au sein de la famille...


Michelle et son rôle :
Secrets est tiré de A Thousand Acres, roman de Jane Smiley (Prix Pulitzer) paru en France sous le titre L'exploitation (Ed.Rivages). Dans cette histoire inspirée du Roi Lear de Shakespeare, Jessica Lange et Michelle ont vu une bonne occasion de travailler ensemble. Toutes deux productrices exécutives du film, elles ont mis quelques années à réussir à concrétiser leur projet.

Michelle et Jessica Lange sont devenues amies à force de se croiser dans les couloirs d'un building de Los Angeles. En effet les deux actrices ont installé leur société de production au même endroit. Sans savoir qu'elles rêvaient de tourner ensemble, Jane Smiley leur a envoyé à chacune le scénario de Secrets.
A l'origine, c'est Paul Newman qui devait interpréter le rôle tenu finalement par Jason Robards

Tous les acteurs du film sont doublés par de vrais chanteurs pour les chansons du film, exceptée Michelle qui interprète elle-même ses chansons dont le fameux When You Believe (dont la version la plus connue est interprétée par les pénibles Whitney Houston et Mariah Carey).

Michelle était très heureuse d'avoir à nouveau l'occasion de chanter dans un film et comme on avait pu le remarquer (et l'admirer) dans le magnifique Susie et les Baker Boys, elle a une très jolie voix. Dommage pour Alan Parker et son Evita que Michelle a refusé !
Le Prince d'Egypte marque la première collaboration de Michelle et de Steven Spielberg (c'est le premier dessin-animé signé DreamWorks). Ils se sont depuis retrouvés pour Apparences (Robert Zemeckis, 00).

Les recherches ne donnent rien, le petit garçon s'est évanoui sans laisser de trace. Pour Beth et son mari Pat, les heures d'attente deviennent des jours, des semaines puis des mois. Mais 10 ans plus tard, alors que l'équilibre semble revenu dans le foyer, un enfant d'environ 13 ans frappe à la porte...


Michelle et son rôle :
Après Un beau jour, Aussi profond que l'océan s'inscrit dans la lignée des rôles de mère que Michelle affectionne de plus en plus depuis qu'elle est elle-même mère.
C'est sa productrice Kate Guinzburg qui lui donna le best-seller de Jacquelyn Mitchard avec l'idée de l'adapter au cinéma. Sentant que Michelle serait bouleversée à la lecture, elle lui précisa avant qu'elle le lise que le petit garçon revenait. Michelle elle-même avoua que sans cette précision, elle n'aurait jamais pu lire le livre jusqu'au bout tellement cette histoire la touchait en tant que mère.
Pendant le tournage, Michelle fut très troublée par le jeune acteur qui jouait son fils aîné (Jonathan Jackson) car elle avait l'impression, en le regardant, de se voir elle-même dans un miroir quelques années plus tôt.
